Distribution Coordinator (Sorting)
Position Overview
The Distribution Coordinator (Sorting) manages the critical pre-distribution process, overseeing inventory receiving, sorting, and preparation. This role is responsible for directing the "Food Mountain" operations and managing the volunteers in the sorting department.
This position reports directly to the Operations Director.
Primary Work Location: West Los Angeles
Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities
Station Setup: Responsible for setting up the sorting station, including canopies, tables, pallets, and coolers, ensuring the station is ready before volunteer arrival.
Inventory Receiving: Strategically direct incoming food from trucks to the appropriate pallets and stations.
Distribution Management: Ensure continuous restocking of food items, adjust distribution amounts based on inventory, and verify incoming sorted boxes.
Volunteer & Sorting Management: Train, supervise, direct, & support volunteers on proper sorting techniques, inventory packaging for line, and instruct to liaise with the Line Coordinator for pallet delivery on the line. In addition ensures, health and safety protocols are followed.
Quality & Integrity: Oversee the egg station and bread sorting, and guide volunteers in separating quality produce from unusable items.
Fair Distribution: Monitor volunteer shopping in the cooler section to ensure fair distribution and manage over-shopping.
Quality & Waste Control: Monitor the line to assure food integrity and ensure composting/recycling is accurately followed.
Closing & Storage: Lead the breakdown and cleaning of equipment. Ensure items are properly packed for the following week and set up pallets and boxes for the weekly Farmer's Market donation.
Qualifications & Requirements
Exceptional organizational skills and a keen eye for quality control and efficiency.
Demonstrated ability to train and supervise volunteers.
Knowledge of food safety standards (preferred).
Ability to work weekends (e.g., Sundays) for distribution events.
Experience volunteering at our food distribution drive (preferred).
Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks including but not limited to, lifting 40 lbs, bending, standing for long periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must be eligible to work in the United States. This role does not provide Visa Sponsorship.

Salary & Benefits
Part-Time: 8-15 hours per week
Pay Rate: $18 - $20 per hour
