Volunteer Coordinator (Food Recovery)

Position Overview

The Food Recovery Volunteer Coordinator supports our food rescue operations driven by the Nourish LA app. This role will focus on onboarding new volunteers, maintaining communication with our active network, and tracking food inventory and recovery data. This is a crucial role for scaling our impact in reducing food waste and ensuring food access.

This position reports directly to the Technical Director.
Primary Work Location: Los Angeles

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities

  • Volunteer Onboarding & Training: Develop and implement onboarding processes and training materials for new food recovery volunteers. In addition, ensure health and safety protocols are followed.

  • Coordination & Communication: Coordinate volunteer schedules and routes through the Nourish LA app. Support volunteers in navigating the app and ensure smooth communication between donors, drivers, and drop-off sites.

  • Data & Inventory Tracking: Track food recovery data and inventory, including weight, type, and destination of rescued food.

  • Administrative Support: Maintain up-to-date volunteer and partner information within the app.

  • Operational Improvement: Recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions to build community engagement and retention.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • ​Experience in volunteer coordination, food recovery, or community organizing (preferred).

  • Experience volunteering at our food distribution drive and/or food recovery team (preferred).

  • ​Comfortable using digital tools and apps for tracking and communication. Experience with Google backends (Surveys, Drive).

  • Detail-oriented and reliable with a passion for sustainability and food justice.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required.

  • Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks including but not limited to, lifting 40 lbs, bending, standing for long periods, and working outdoors/in the field as needed for fieldwork/training.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States. This role does not provide Visa Sponsorship.

Salary & Benefits

  • Part-Time: 5-10 hours per week, opportunity for additional hours as app grows
