Cooking for a Cause with Anya Fernald

On Saturday, May 16th, we experienced the force of fire and the power-house energy of Anya Fernald.  The Twentieth Street Garden opened their space for the community to participate in a cooking workshop for a cause.  Anya demonstrated cooking within a 6-foot fire pit, a-top homemade fire embers, along with patience, respect, and safety associated with open-fire cooking.  All participants received hands-on, up close, and personal experience.  Throughout the day they prepared the food: chopping vegetables, slicing italian pancetta, and break-of-dawn caught sea bass, mussels, and shrimp.  They also felt and saw the arc of flames, heat, and various cooking methods skills associated with this delicious meal of pancetta wrapped onions, cioppino stew, fresh sourdough bread, and buried beets.

Attendees traveled from all over California to take part in this experience.  Thank you to everyone that attended!  Each ticket purchased provided a donation to Nourish LA.
