Volunteer Coordinator (Food Distribution)
Position Overview
The Volunteer Coordinator is the key point of contact for Nourish LA's volunteer community. This role is responsible for recruiting, scheduling, supervising, and actively communicating with volunteers to foster an inclusive, supportive, and engaged community aligned with our food access and sustainability mission.
This position reports directly to the Operations Director.
Primary Work Location: West Los Angeles
Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Management: Recruit, onboard, schedule, and manage diverse individuals and groups for weekly food distribution events.
On-Site Supervision: Ensure volunteers follow safety rules; manage de-escalation and conflict resolution to assure a safe environment.; manage check-in/check out of volunteers.
Communications & Outreach: Co-manage all volunteer-facing communications, including multiple email aliases, inquiries, group coordination, and ensuring applicable forms, waivers, etc are obtained for volunteers on site.
Event Support: Represent Nourish LA at outreach events and community fairs.
Administrative Support: Maintain volunteer databases, sign-in systems, and capture photos for the newsletter.
Station Setup & Closing: Responsible for setting up the Volunteer Check-in/out and Break station, including canopies, tables, beverage cooler, food, first aid, and signage. Lead the breakdown of this station, including cleaning and proper disposal/storage of food and beverages.
Closing & Storage: Assist Distribution Coordinator (Sorting): set up pallets and boxes for the weekly Farmer's Market donation.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience in volunteer management or community organizing.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and de-escalation.
Proficiency with database management.
Ability to work weekends (e.g., Sundays) for distribution events.
Experience volunteering at our food distribution drive (preferred)
Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks including but not limited to, lifting 40 lbs, bending, standing for long periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must be eligible to work in the United States. This role does not provide Visa Sponsorship.

Salary & Benefits
Part-Time: 8-15 hours per week
Pay Rate: $18 - $20 per hour
