Honoring the Roots of our Community: A Mother’s Day Celebration
This May, as the gardens of Los Angeles burst into full bloom, we take a moment to celebrate Mother’s Day. At Nourish LA, this day holds a special significance. We see "Motherhood" not just as a title, but as a powerful force of nurturing, protection, and growth that mirrors our mission to care for our community and our planet.
Nurturing Nature and Neighbors
Just as a mother tends to a seedling, ensuring it has the nourishment to grow, our volunteers and supporters tend to our city. We see this maternal spirit in action every week:
In our Gardens: Where we honor Mother Earth by practicing sustainable food recovery and composting, turning "waste" into a harvest for the next generation.
At our Distributions: Where so many mothers in our community work tirelessly to provide fresh, healthy produce for their families, often while volunteering their own time to help others.
In our Leadership: From our founder to our organizers, the drive to "feed the family" has expanded to include the entire Los Angeles community.
A Legacy of Sharing
Many of us learned our first lessons in generosity and food stewardship from the women who raised us. Whether it was learning how to save seeds, help out in a family garden, or share a meal with a neighbor in need, those lessons are the "Good Karma" that fuels Nourish LA today.
Celebrate with Us
This Mother’s Day, consider honoring a special woman in your life by supporting a mission that nurtures everyone:
Dedicated Donations: Make a donation in honor of your mother or a maternal figure. We’ll use it to keep our distribution full and our gardens green.
Volunteer Together: There is no better way to bond than by giving back. Join us for a weekend distribution and experience the joy of community care firsthand.
Plant a Seed: Start a small container garden with your family this month. It’s a beautiful way to stay connected to the source of our nourishment.
To all the mothers, grandmothers, foster moms, and mentors in our Nourish LA family: Thank you for teaching us how to grow, how to give, and how to nourish.
