Good Karma Gardens Party 1.17.26
On Saturday, January 17th, our Good Karma Gardens crew spent the day transforming the front yard of Tammy Bathke’s home in Inglewood into a thriving community garden. We first met Tammy while distributing plants at the Inglewood Farmers' Market. As a neighborhood educator who teaches children out of her home, Tammy reached out to us, hoping to create a garden where she could both grow food and inspire the young people she mentors.
With the help of more than 90 volunteers, we converted Tammy’s 1,000‑square‑foot turf lawn into a vibrant, nutrient‑rich garden space. What was once an underused patch of grass will now serve as a pollinator habitat, a hands-on outdoor classroom, and a place where children can connect with nature and learn to grow their own food.
Thank you to Aini California, Homegrown Gardens, and Cerca Gardens for their generous plant donations. Thank you to Food Forward, Gjusta Grocer, Tartine Bakery, Jyan Isaac Bread, and Groundwork Coffee for providing delicious food and drinks to keep our volunteers energized throughout the day. Last but not least, Mahalo, to each and every one of the volunteers that joined us in the soil - we couldn't have done it without you.
The generosity and spirit of everyone coming together at our GKG parties makes this work possible!
